Careers

ICES Student membership is FREE*

ICES student membership is FREE as long as you are studying one of the many ICES accredited courses.

Unlike other industries, there are many ways of qualifying as a civil engineering surveyor. Get a head start by studying subjects such as English, Maths, Economics, Science and Geography. It’s true; you need qualifications to make a cup of tea these days,

so make the most of your studies.

Academic qualifications will act as a passport to new jobs in the UK and abroad. Lots of companies have graduate training schemes, allowing you to gain a professional qualification whilst in employment. Be

sure to ask when applying for jobs.

The Diploma - Construction & The Built Environment

The Diploma is a qualification for 14 to 19 year olds in England. It is a new qualification which combines classroom learning with practical experience. Students will still study compulsory subjects as well as getting an insight into what work is like.

Young people with the Diploma will have better skills, and better insight into what the sector is like to
work in. The Diploma will be delivered through local groups of schools, colleges and employers called ‘consortia’ and will provide young people with the chance to study in a stimulating and practical
environment being taught by people with relevant and up to date skills

Careers Talks - From ICES members

ICES is keen to see more young people consider careers in surveying. ICES is now working with Growing Ambitions, a UK based not-for-profit organisation, whose remit is to facilitate inspiring career talks for young people. It works by linking ICES members to schools and colleges local to them, to provide careers talks for their students. If you are an ICES member or a school or college and you like a careers talk from a civil engineering surveyor, please contact Serena Ronan, ICES Professional Development Coordinator.
