Map Action – technical geospatial challenges volunteering with a humanitarian mapping agency

Please join us for this joint event with RICS, where you will hear about humanitarian emergencies that are often complex and confusing, responders rapidly need accurate up-to-date information in order to help those affected.
The geospatial charity MapAction co-ordinate rescue efforts and map the needs of affected communities in order to make the responses targeted and as effective as possible. This talk will give an introduction to MapAction’s work and will highlight some of the technical challenges MapAction volunteers face when deployed rapidly into an emergency response situations.
Our speaker, Andreas, has been deployed to floods in Malawi 2015 and to Mozambique this year to work with the United Nation Disaster Assessment Co-ordination team (UNDAC), after Cyclone Idai hit the country.
