Thames Tideway – London’s Super Sewer. Tour of locations by river.
We will be taking you from London Bridge City Pier for our Tideway tour of the River Thames.
Please join us for this interesting, free event where we will see the three main Tideway tunnelling drive sites at Bermondsey, Battersea, and Fulham. These are where we launch our main tunnelling machines for the 16-mile long, seven metre diameter Thames Tideway Tunnel (aka London’s Super Sewer!)
In addition, we will get a close-up view of a number of sites where we are intercepting sewers that currently release sewage into the Thames, including Blackfriars, Victoria Embankment and Chelsea. These sites will enable us to transfer the waste into the tunnel and prevent it reaching the river.
During the trip (as far east as Wapping and west as Putney) a Tideway representative, will give a commentary about the overall project, the individual sites and the work taking place at each of them as well as some London landmarks we also see along the way.
Many of the sites are dramatically changing the face of the River Thames already so there is plenty to see and you will get a route map to enhance your experience.
Please arrive at London Bridge City Pier for 9.45am as the boat will leave at 10am, with return expected at 12pm.
