Celebrating and championing women in civil engineering, surveying and construction.
CICES has unveiled a new online hub for its popular Women's Network, a thriving community bringing together those at all stages of their career journey and working within the civil engineering surveying sector.
The new hub offers a wealth of resources, including one of its most valued features: the opportunity to give back as a mentor or receive mentoring to support your career.
The webpages will also shine a spotlight on the real-life stories of members, celebrating the diverse journeys and achievements of women working across the engineering and surveying industry.
ONS data shows that women make up around 15% of the UK construction workforce.
The Network was the brainchild of leading quantity surveyor Genna Rourke, who is also the institution's vice president. It has grown into a popular community since its launch three years ago.
Whether you're looking for guidance or simply a supportive network of like-minded professionals, the Women's Network is open to everyone, including women and allies who support the aims of the network.
Speaking about the launch of the new hub, Genna said:
“This new hub gives the CICES Women’s Network a real home, a place where women in civil engineering, surveying and construction can find not only resources, but also encouragement, visibility and support. We wanted to create a space that reflects what the network is truly about: helping women connect with others, access mentorship, learn from shared experiences and find practical support that can help them navigate their careers with greater confidence.
“It is important that women in our sector know there is somewhere they can turn to, whether they are looking for guidance, inspiration, development opportunities or simply a sense of belonging. I am proud to see the network continue to grow, and I hope this hub becomes a meaningful source of support for women across the profession.”
CICES CEO Simon Hamlyn echoed that enthusiasm, adding:
"The launch of this unique hub marks a milestone for CICES and reflects our ongoing commitment to our golden thread of equity, diversity and inclusion.
“Women remain underrepresented in our industry, and initiatives such as the Women's Network are vital for supporting women in their careers. By providing a dedicated space for connection, mentorship and shared experience, we hope to inspire more women to join, stay and thrive in the industry."
It also provides the opportunity to meet and engage with like-minded individuals
