International Women in Engineering Day 2025
#TogetherWeEngineer – International Women in Engineering Day 2025
International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) is celebrated annually on June 23rd to honor the outstanding achievements of women in engineering whilst encouraging more girls and women to pursue careers in engineering. This year’s theme is #TogetherWeEngineer.
INWED gives women in engineering around the world a profile when they are still hugely under-represented, with 2021 figures indicating that in the UK only 16.5% of engineers are women.
At CICES, we’ve shone light on several of our members and featured them across collaborative pieces to discuss the steps forward and why they love working in engineering…
Hear from our members…

‘We need to highlight female surveyors who are shaping the industry and give them platforms to share their stories with young people. When surveying is presented as a career that is innovative, impactful and open to everyone, more girls will begin to see themselves in it.’ - Alison Watson MBE
What is CICES doing for International Women in Engineering Day 2025?
At CICES HQ in Sale, we have given our inspiring female members the opportunity to feature on our online channels by sending us an image of themselves followed by a few words on what being a woman in engineering means to them, with this we want to shine light on those within our institution being champions within their roles.
In alignment with this key date, we orchestrated a webinar with our women’s network around equal pay and what organisations can do to be more inclusive. This will address our recent equal pay survey and feature a panel including…
- Dr Valerie Vaughan-Dick MBE FRCGP (Hon), CEO of RIBA
- Steph Watson, Head of People of Lanes Group
- Steven McCarthy, Recruitment Director of Russel Taylor Group
As part of a wider outreach initiative, Tehya Bruce Allen, Communications and Engagement Officer, arranged a presentation to 90 local primary school students to talk about surveying and women in engineering. Mirela Hyka, land and hydrographic surveyor, LandScope Engineering, presented at Newall Green Primary School. This session was targeted to Newall Green Primary School’s Year 5 students and designed to give an introduction of surveying, addressing the challenges faced for those trying to enter and practical solutions. Keep your eyes peeled for our social platforms as we will be feeding back post-session!
