Thousands raised for charity at CICES 2025 Annual Dinner

A total of £3,765 was raised for charity during the CICES annual dinner, which was held at Cutlers’ Hall on 26 September.

During the evening, outgoing CICES president Alison Watson MBE handed over the reins to newly appointed president Alex Pearsall, who shared her vision for her tenure with the theme Shaping the Future of Construction.

The annual dinner is a much-anticipated staple in the CICES calendar and provides the opportunity for members to enjoy a three-course meal and network with each other and CICES staff.

This year's event featured a charity raffle and auction, which raised an impressive £3,765 for the Teenage Cancer Trust, the charity chosen by immediate past president Alison Watson MBE.

Worthy award winners

The glitzy occasion was also a chance to get together to celebrate the best in the industry, with several awards handed out to inspiring individuals on the night.

Presidential and Institution Medal

The prestigious CICES Presidential Medal was presented to Richard Latham.

Richard, who has been a lecturer for more than forty years, has taught land surveying for over 25 years, and is currently the programme leader for the BSc (Hons) Surveying & Mapping Sciences programme at the University of East London.

Meanwhile, the Institution medal was awarded to the Royal School of Military Engineering.

Steve Coates, head of engineering surveying at the college, accepted the award on behalf of the RSME, with Corporal Davies also in attendance.

Speaking about the RSME being awarded the CICES Institution Medal, Steve said:

“It was an honour to receive the Institution Medal on behalf of the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME).

This award recognises the strength of partnership between the HM Forces (ARMY) Corps of Royal Engineers, Holdfast Training Services and MKC Training, and celebrates our enduring collaboration with CICES, as well as the outstanding contribution of all involved to this achievement and the wider profession.”

Robin Jones award

The CICES Robin Jones award celebrates and supports emerging talent in civil engineering surveying, from students to trainees and apprentices. At this year's annual dinner, two outstanding students received the prestigious award.

Avais Ahmed won in recognition of his commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and student Josh Berry won in recognition of overcoming challenges.

The annual dinner was gratefully sponsored by several companies, with firms also generously donating prizes to the raffle and the auction.

Sponsors of the event included G2 Surveys, KOREC, Applications in Cadd, CHC Navigation.

Our next CICES annual dinner is scheduled for 25 September 2026.

We'll share venue information and additional details closer to the date. If you'd like to join us at other upcoming CICES events in the meantime, visit our complete event calendar here.
