Civil engineering surveyors across the UK and internationally are being urged to share their views on sustainability as part of a major new annual survey.
CICES has launched its 2026 Sustainability Survey, open to both members and non-members, seeking insight into how sustainability practices are being adopted across the industry.
The survey explores how organisations are applying economic, social and environmental sustainability principles, and gauges how confident professionals feel when navigating sustainability-related issues.
It also explores which areas of sustainability respondents feel the profession most requires support or guidance in, as well as their confidence levels when addressing sustainability issues.
The survey is anonymous, and responses will be used to build a clearer picture of the industry's attitudes and identify areas where further education may be needed.
Sustainability is one of CICES' three golden threads, reflecting the institution's commitment to examining the environmental and social impacts of its members' work, organisations and projects.
Dr Michele Victoria is the course leader for the Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management undergraduate programme at Robert Gordon University, and the chair of the CICES Sustainability Committee. Speaking about the survey launch, she said:
"Sustainability runs through everything we do as an institution, so hearing directly from our members is vital. This annual survey is our chance to take stock of where we are and where we need to go, I am looking forward to seeing what our members and those in the industry have to say”.
The CICES sustainability survey will be open for one month and takes approximately 15–20 minutes to complete. Those interested in sharing their own workplace sustainability practices, for example, by taking part as a case study, can also register their interest through the survey.
