CICES appoints former teacher as education outreach manager to strengthen industry ties

CICES has appointed qualified teacher Rachel Hames to the role of education outreach manager; a newly created role designed to expand the institution’s engagement with the education sector.

With more than three years’ experience as a primary school teacher, Rachel, from Leicester, has also served as a mentor and school history lead. Additionally, Rachel is an active STEM ambassador.

Rachel will work closely with Dominic Lane, development manager at CICES, to strengthen the institution’s connections with schools, colleges and universities.

Dominic said Rachel’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for the institution. He said:

“We are delighted to have Rachel join us and believe she will be a great asset to the team. Her background in education will be instrumental in helping us both influence and approach the education sector. Having a new, dedicated resource in this area will also support us in driving new memberships.

“Rachel’s appointment comes shortly after our new president, Alexandra (Alex) Pearsall, began her term. With Alex’s presidential theme for the year ahead being ‘shaping the future of construction,’ and the addition of this new role, we’re excited about the opportunities ahead.”

Rachel, who started her new position in September, said: “I’m excited to join the team at CICES and look forward to using the skills I’ve gained from my background in education in this new role, while also highlighting the benefits of CICES membership.”

“I am passionate about inclusivity, and with diversity and inclusion being one of CICES’s golden threads, I’m proud to align myself with an organisation that prioritises these values.”

Founded in 1969, CICES is the leading international professional body for civil engineering surveyors, specialising in geospatial engineering and commercial management.
